From 3 to 5 November, Secmotic will be at Smart City Expo World Congress 2026, the leading international event on smart cities, held at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue.
This time we are taking SecLive, our AI-powered video analytics platform, into the world of urban mobility. At our stand we will show how AI can strengthen public transport safety using the cameras already installed on buses, metros, trams and in stations.
Smart City Expo World Congress 2026: the global meeting point for cities
Since 2011, Barcelona has hosted this congress every year. It is widely regarded as the world’s largest event on urban innovation, bringing together city and government leaders, technology companies, researchers and start-ups to share solutions that make cities more sustainable, efficient and liveable.
The scale of the event speaks for itself. According to the organisers, the 2025 edition brought together more than 27,000 attendees from 138 countries, around 1,200 exhibitors and almost 600 speakers. This year, the focus is on moving from ambition to real-world implementation.
Alongside Smart City Expo, the Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress takes place. Organised together with EIT Urban Mobility, it gathers transport operators, cities and technology providers around one idea: mobility solutions with real impact. That makes it the ideal setting to present SecLive to the transport sector.
The challenge of public transport safety
More and more people are travelling by public transport. According to Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), the country exceeded 5,784 million public transport passengers in 2025, up 3.7% on the previous year, and Madrid Metro alone recorded around 736 million journeys.
However, the teams responsible for those passengers are not growing at the same pace. Metro, bus, tram and rail operators have hundreds of cameras, but no one can watch them all at once. As a result, many problems are only spotted when it is already too late:
- Platforms that become overcrowded without anyone noticing in time.
- Bags or suitcases left behind in busy areas.
- Unauthorised access to tracks or technical areas without an immediate alert.
- Hours of work spent documenting every shift by hand.
SecLive: AI for public transport
SecLive adds a layer of artificial intelligence on top of the operator’s existing camera network. Each camera stops simply recording and starts detecting what is happening, alerting the control centre in under a second.

At Smart City Expo we will showcase its main applications for transport:
- Occupancy control: counts passengers per platform, door or carriage and raises an alert before an area becomes overcrowded.
- Falls and harsh braking: detects a person on the ground or sudden braking and triggers the alert before anyone reports it.
- Unattended items: locates forgotten suitcases or bags and activates the corresponding protocol.
- Restricted areas: continuously monitors tracks, technical rooms and no-access zones.
- Reduced mobility: identifies wheelchairs or pushchairs outside reserved areas.
- Driver’s cab: detects signs of drowsiness or distraction at the wheel.
- Smoke, fire and vandalism: recognises these situations the moment they occur.
- Predictive models: forecast occupancy by line and time slot to plan the service more effectively.
In addition, at the end of each shift the system automatically generates a report with every incident, occupancy figure and alert, ready for audits.
Why choose SecLive for public transport safety
Beyond what it detects, SecLive is designed to fit the reality of a transport operator:
- No building work or new hardware: it is compatible with more than 300 camera manufacturers and is up and running in 48 hours.
- Private by design: video stays with the operator and images are anonymised.
- On-board AI: analysis runs on the vehicle itself, so it works even without a network connection.
- Open integration: alerts and data are sent to the operator’s systems via API and MQTT.
Finally, Secmotic holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 42001 certifications, as well as Spain’s National Security Framework (ENS) certification.
